# PayPal

> Import payments and payouts from PayPal into your customers' books.

Layer connects to [PayPal](https://www.paypal.com/) to import the sales your customers collect through it. Payments post as revenue on the customer's books, and withdrawals to their bank account are tracked so deposits reconcile against bank activity.

## Setup

Grant Layer access to your customers' PayPal activity and map each Layer business to its PayPal account. Your Layer contact will help you establish the connection.

Layer ingests payment and payout activity as it occurs. Payments post as sales on the customer's books, net of refunds. When the customer's [bank data](/guides/importing-bank-data) is also connected, Layer matches PayPal withdrawals against the corresponding bank deposits, so the same revenue isn't counted twice.

This integration is enabled per platform. Reach out to your Layer contact to turn it on.

## Importing directly instead

To push sales activity to Layer yourself, use the [Invoices](/api-reference/invoice/invoice), [Invoice Payments](/api-reference/invoice/payments), and [Payouts](/api-reference/customer-payouts/payout) APIs. The [sales / AR data guide](/guides/importing-sales-ar-data) covers this in full.
